Anushka Sharma started her Bollywood career with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in which she starred opposite King Khan. Since then it has been an eventful box office journey for her. She is one of the most sought Bollywood actresses these days. As Anushka Sharma’s Pari is all set to hit the theatres tomorrow, let’s take a look at the box office performance of her movies till date.
Blockbuster Debut With Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi: Starring opposite Shahrukh Khan and directed by Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge fame director Aditya Chopra, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was a dream debut for Anushka who had barely done few modelling assignments earlier. With hit music and an adorable role, the young actress made a mark for herself and made us believe she is an actress to reckon with. The film was a major box office success and in competition with Aamir Khan’s Ghajini, it made a whopping 87 crores at the box office.
The Next Big Step, Band Baaja Baarat: Anushka’s next film was another Yash Raj film with newcomer Ranveer Singh which became a huge hit with the young audience. With a story very relatable to the youngsters, the movie was a successful second film for Anushka. With fun songs and dance numbers, the movie did not make it too big at the box office but made a moderate collection of 24 crores.
Badmash Company and Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl: This was followed by two moderate performances in YRJ films namely Badmash Company and Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl that made collections of 36 crores and 32 crores respectively.
Patiala House with Akshay Kumar: Anushka starred opposite Akshay Kumar is a family sports drama film directed by Nikhil Advani. The movie managed to earn only 36 crores and was declared flop.
Hit the 100 crores mark with Jab Tak Hain Jaan: With a super multi starrer, Jab Tak Hain Jaan, Anushka hit the 100 crores mark for the first time. The film, having the presence of Shahrukh Khan and Katrina Kaif, did a great overseas business and made 121 crores at the domestic box office.
Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola: Vishal Bharadwaj’s Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola starring Imran Khan, Pankaj Kapoor and Anushka Sharma was a flop at the box office. It earned only 23 crores.
Huge Success With PK: After a series of flops like Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola and Patiala House, Anushka met with huge success as she was cast in the Raju Hirani film PK which made a whopping 340.50 crores overall. This could well be termed a turning point in Anushka’s career.
Turned Producer With NH 10: At a point when no one expected the young actress to produce a film, Anushka took the bold step and also played the lead in the movie. NH 10 was highly appreciated for it’s bold and off beat concept. The movie was a semi-hit and made a total collection of 33 crores.
Hits and Flops: While the expectations were too high when the actress was cast opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Bombay Velvet, the film failed miserably at the box office. It was one of the biggest disappointments of the year and a big disaster in both Anushka and Ranbir’s career. The film made barely 16 crores. Next, the multi starrer Dil Dhadkane Do, in which Anusha played Ranveer Singh’s love interest, made a moderate 77 crores. Sultan, with Salman Khan, was a forgettable performance in the actress’s career. But it was a huge commercial milestone as it made 300.50 crores at the box office.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil: Amidst controversies, this Karan Johar film did attract huge audience, but the movie failed to bring the expected success. Nevertheless, it was commercial success with a total collection of 114 crores.
Played a Friendly Ghost in Phillauri: Anushka’s next production venture was Phillauri in which she was a friendly ghost in rustic setting in Punjab. The film had a good opening but failed to do the business expected of it. It made a total collection of 23 crores at the Indian box office.
First flop with Shah Rukh Khan: Anushka and Shahrukh starred in Imtiaz Ali directional Jab Harry Met Sejal. The movie was released with huge expectations but it turned out a disaster. It earned just 64 crores.
