Tubelight 8th day box office collection: Salman Khan's film is a major flop

After an average opening week with the collection of 106.86 crores, Salman Khan’s Tubelight is expected to hold well in the second week as there is no big Bollywood release this week. With no competition, Tubelight is expected to remain steady in the second week. But to our surprise, the movie has started the second week on a poor note.Despite no major release, the movie witnessed a huge drop on its second Friday. As per early estimates, Tubelight 8th day box office collection is around 3 crores.

After 8 days, the total collection of the movie stands at 109.86 crores. It is currently the fifth highest grosser of 2017 after Bahubali 2, Raees, Jolly LLB 2 and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. (Read: Highest grossing movies of 2017)

With the current trend, Tubelight will wrap up its box office journey in the second week itself. The movie is a major flop at the Indian and overseas box office as the distributors have to incur huge losses.

While everyone was expecting Tubelight to become the highest grossing Bollywood movie of 2017, it is now struggling to cross even 120 crores in India. After 8 days, the worldwide gross collection of the movie stands at 191 crores. The should cross 200 crores worldwide but not much thereafter.

Made on a budget of 100 crores excluding Salman Khan’s fee, Tubelight needs to earn at least 150 crores to be called a hit at the box office. The producers have already made a huge profit through digital, satellite, music and distribution rights. But it is the distributors, who have to incur huge losses. There are reports that the distributors have started approaching Salman to pay back the losses. It would be interesting to see how Salman reacts as he is not bound to any contract for payback.
