The first weekend collections of the movie stand at Rs 23.54 Crore. It is the 8th highest opening weekend for a Bollywood movie released in 2022.

Top Opening Weekend of 2022 Bollywood Movies

  1. Bhool Bhulaiya 2: Rs 55.96 Crore
  2. Samrat Prithviraj: Rs 39.4 Crore
  3. Gangubai Kathiawadi: Rs 39.12 Crore
  4. Jugg Jug Jeeyo: Rs 36.93 Crore
  5. Bachchan Pandey: Rs 36.17 Crore
  6. Shamshera: Rs 31.75 Crore
  7. The Kashmir Files: Rs 27.15 Crore
  8. Ek Villain Returns: Rs 23-24 Crore

Well, a 24 Crore weekend is not a big number or even good compared to the pre-pandemic times. Ek Villain released in 2014 collected Rs 50+ Crore in the opening weekend.

However, considering how Bollywood movies have been struggling recently and big event movies tanked at the box office, this will be considered a decent number for a mid-budget movie.

Ek Villain Returns budget and box office economics

The overall budget of Ek Villain Returns including the production, promotion, and advertising fee is Rs 80 Crore. The makers have already recovered a large chunk through digital, satellite, and music rights.

In order to become a box office hit, Ek Villain Returns needs to collect at least Rs 90 Crore at the box office.

The drop in collections on Monday is going to decide the fate of Ek Villain Returns at the box office. The movie should hold well on Monday and continues to do so on weekdays to score respectable lifetime numbers. John Abraham starrer has an open window to score well before the arrival of biggies Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan.
