Wonder Woman 1984 saw good growth over the weekend despite new restrictions and renewed night curfew in many cities.
Wonder Woman 1984 Opening Weekend Box Office India: Gal Gadot superhero movie is having a steady run at the Indian box office. Released at a time when the filmmakers and exhibitors are struggling to pull the audience to the theatres, Wonder Woman 1984 performed quite well over the opening weekend. During these difficult times, even a single day figure of Rs 2 crores looks a big achievement. Wonder Woman 1984 has managed to achieve this number thrice in the opening weekend.
As per the reports coming, Wonder Woman 1984 collected around Rs 2.5 crore on Sunday(4th day). What good to see is the movie has shown better growth over the weekend compared to the last big release Tenet. Christopher Nolan’s Tenet collected around Rs 4.2 crore in the first weekend.
A sequel to the 2017 blockbuster movie, Wonder Woman 1984 got delayed several times due to the pandemic. It finally gets released in theatres in the U.S and India before its premiere in 32 international markets.
In India, it was released on Thursday (Dec 24, 2020) with limited paid previews on Wednesday. Have a look at the day-wise opening weekend box office collection of the Wonder Woman 1984 in India:
Previews – 75 lakhs
Thursday – 1.5 crore (Day 1)
Friday – 2.25 crore (Day 2)
Saturday – 2.35 crore (Day 3)
Sunday- 2.5 crore (Day 3)
TOTAL – 9.35 crore
This is definitely a decent performance considering that many states have imposed night curfew. In one of the best-performing markets Mumbai, the movie has last show at 7:30 pm. It would be interesting to see how Wonder Woman 1984 performs on weekdays. The target should be to cross Rs 20 crore mark. However, it will comfortably surpass the lifetime numbers of Tenet which stand at Rs 11 crore.
Coming to domestic (U.S.) box office, Wonder Woman 1984 has exceeded expectations. It was predicted to earn between $10-15 million in its opening weekend. However, as per the reports coming, it has collected around $16.7 million.
The movie has a terrible opening in the international markets when it opened on Dec 16, 2020. It grossed only $38.5 million across 32 markets, which isn’t a good number even amidst the pandemic.
