Finally, a big sigh of relief for Bollywood as Ayan Mukhehji’s epic fantasy drama Brahmastra sets the box office on fire on its opening day. Ranbir-Alia starrer is off to a terrific start at the Indian box office. According to early estimates, the movie collected around Rs 38 Crore on its opening day to become the biggest non-holiday opener of all time (Bollywood movie, All Versions ).

Brahmastra has also become the biggest pandemic opener for Bollywood by surpassing the opening of the Diwali 2021 release, Sooryavanshi (Rs 26.29 Crore). Of the Rs 38 crore, the Hindi version collected around Rs 33 Crore, while the South version collected in the range of Rs 4.5 Crore to Rs 5 Crore. It is the biggest opening for a Bollywood movie in South languages.

The fantasy drama seems to have ingrained viewers across the country. The movie was expected to take a big opening across multiplex chains as advance booking reports were extremely positive. However, it’s the mass centers that stood high. The three national chains have collected around Rs 19.5 Crore (all versions) while the non-national chains summed up around Rs 18.50 Crore.

Biggest opening for Ranbir and Alia’s biggest opener

Brahmastra is now the biggest opener of all time for Ranbir and Alia. It has surpassed the opening of the 2018 release Sanju (Rs 34.73 Crore). Alia’s biggest opener before Brahmastra was Kalank (Rs 21.6 Crore).

The biggest Bollywood opener of 2022

Brahmastra is the biggest Bollywood opener of 2022 surpassing Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (Rs 14.11 Crore). If we take into account Hindi versions of South Indian movies then it is the second highest opener after KGF Chapter 2 (Rs 53.95 Crore) and ahead of RRR (Rs 20.07 Crore).

 A 100+ Crore Weekend

A huge opening day has set the base for a long inning at the box office. The advances for the first weekend are good. It is expected that the film would easily cross Rs 100 Crore in three days.

A strong weekend is on cards and it all boils down to how the movie performs on weekdays. Brahmastra is the costliest Bollywood movie with a budget of around Rs 400 Crore. The real test will start on Monday. A firm hold on Monday is necessary for the movie to play a long inning at the box office.
