Bollywood box office report: With the release of Malang, Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji saw its first major drop. Saif Ali Khan’s Jawaani Jaaneman down and out.
Like last week, this may turn out a bad week for Bollywood. There are two new releases this week. Aditya Roy Kapur and Disha Patani starrer ‘Malang’ is off to a good start. It collected Rs 6.71 crore on its first day. Released on 2200 screens, the action-thriller film has received mixed reviews from critics. The positive word of mouth will drive the film at the box office. I am expecting it to earn Rs 25+ crore in the first weekend.
#Malang is decent on Day 1… Should’ve grossed higher given its genre… National multiplexes contribute 50%+ of Day 1 biz… Mass circuits low… Needs to show more than normal jump on Day 2, though biz in #Delhi will be limited… Fri ₹ 6.71 cr. #India biz.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Shikara had a limited release confined to major multiplexes of the country. It is off to a decent start, collecting Rs 1.20 crore on day 1. The film has received positive reviews and we may see good growth in numbers over the weekend.
#Shikara surprises on Day 1… Released at multiplexes mainly, the biz gathered momentum post noon shows [a norm nowadays]… Needs to double its Day 1 number on Day 2 and maintain the trend on Day 3 for a respectable weekend total… Fri ₹ 1.20 cr. #India biz.

For the first time in the last 1 month, Ajay Devgn’s Tanhaji collected in the range of 1 crore. The Om Raut’s directional collected Rs 1.15 crore on the 29th day of its release. The total collection after 29 days stands at Rs 260+ crore. Well, 300 crore club is out of the question now. The film would be looking to cross Rs 275 crore in its lifetime. The film is already a blockbuster at the box office.
Raad: Tanhaji lifetime box office collection
#Tanhaji [Week 5] Fri 1.15 cr. Total: ₹ 260.67 cr. #India biz.

Last week release, Saif Ali Khan’s Jawaani Jaaneman witnessed a big drop on its 8th day. The screen count, as well as shows, have reduced, resulting in a big drop in numbers. The film collected Rs 1.04 crore on its 8th day. The total after 8 days stands at Rs 21.25 crore.
#JawaaniJaaneman is hit by new releases… The screen count as well as shows have reduced… Metros should be back on track on [second] Sat, although #Delhi – where it’s performing well – will be limited on Sat… [Week 2] Fri 1.04 cr. Total: ₹ 21.25 cr. #India biz.

With not much fuel left in the tank, Jawaani Jaaneman is expected to wrap up its box office journey by the end of the second week. The lifetime collection would be around Rs 30 crore. It a box office flop.
