India Box Office: Nolan’s ‘Tenet’ Inches closer to Rs 10 Crore mark

Nolan’s ‘Tenet’ has managed to draw the public out of the fears and fetched respectful numbers at the Indian box office.

Christopher Nolan’s Tenet was the first major release in India after an eight-month-long shutdown of multiplexes and theatres. Released in India on Dec 4, 2020, Tenet has managed to draw the public to the theatres despite pandemic fear. Tenet got off to a decent start and has been raking a decent amount at the box office since then.

According to Box Office India, Tenet collected around Rs 1.1-1.2 crore nett on its first day. It remained steady over the weekend and collected around Rs 4 crore nett in the first weekend. On weekdays, the first saw a considerable drop in numbers. In the first week, Tenet earned Rs 5.5 crore of which Rs 1.5 crore came on weekdays.

Coming to the second week, the film collected Rs 2.75 crore nett over the weekend. It earned around Rs 1 crore on weekdays to take its two-week total to Rs 9.25 crore. The film should now comfortably cross the 10 crore nett by the end of the third weekend.

The film has a huge contribution coming from the South with Tamil Nadu leading the way. Mumbai and South are contributing over 80% of the all India collections with more than 60% coming from the South.

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, Tenet is a twisted time travel story of an agent who manipulates the flow of time to prevent World War III. The time travel film stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh in the lead roles.

With Tanet managed to pull the audience to the theatres, theatre owners and exhibitors are also looking forward to another major Hollywood release this month: Wonder Woman 1984. Starring Gal Gadot, the superhero film will release in India on Dec 24, 2020.
