Walker: Independence Plot

Set in the late 1800s, Walker: Independence follows Abby Walker played by Katherine McNamara), the ancestor of Jared Padalecki’s character Cordell Walker. She is a wealthy and hard-headed Bostonian who witnesses the death of her husband as they travel to the West. Abby arrives in Independence, Texas, after running into Calian, a curious Apache tracker.

There, she meets a diverse group of people who are hiding from their pasts, pursuing their dreams, and keeping secrets, like Kate Carver, an eccentric burlesque dancer who might be too interested in Abby’s origins, and Kai, a soulful Chinese immigrant who owns a neighbourhood restaurant/laundry and offers Abby friendship without conditions.

Additionally, Hoyt Rawlins, a cunning con man with a battered heart of gold, practically runs into Abby, and he immediately sees her as a mark.

Katherine McNamara, who stars in Walker: Independence, spoke with The Nerds of Color about the show, saying: “I think what made it [the show] stand out to me is that it’s a Western that tries to refresh and reinvent what a Western is. We take the term independence very interestingly.”

Her co-star Matt Barr said, “I’m excited for a new generation to meet Westerns.”

According to the official synopsis of the show:

“Abby and Hoyt soon find themselves precariously aligned, both seeking to uncover the truth about the identity of Abby’s husband’s killer and vow to save Independence — a frontier boomtown where nothing is what it seems.”

The CW hasn’t announced the full release schedule or the number of episodes for the first season. However, since Season 1 of Walker Independence will run in parallel to Season 3 of Walker, we expect it to have around 18 to 20 episodes.
