Tiger King Season 2: Netflix has renewed the true crime docuseries ‘Tiger King’ for a second season. Release date and everything you need to know.

It’s official. Netflix’s true crime docuseries ‘Tiger King’ is returning for its second season. Well, it comes as no surprise as the first season premiered in March 2020 was one of Netflix’smost successful releases. Netflix revealed the news on Sep 23, 2021, as part of the announcement of a slate of upcoming true crime documentaries, including Bad Vegan, Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King and The Tinder Swindler.

“Tiger King is coming back this year – and season two promises just as much mayhem and madness as season one!” Netflix tweeted alongside an image of Joe Exotic.

Focusing on the extraordinary life of Joe Exotic, a tiger handler in Oklahoma, the docuseries explores the events in the rack up to his 22-year prison sentence, which he is currently serving. The series focuses on the deeply interconnected society of big cat conservationists such as Carole Baskin, and collectors such as Exotic. The first season focuses on the controversies surrounding people who own big cats, including lions and tigers, with the focus mainly on Joe Exotic – the Tiger King.

The first season was a huge hit. According to Nielsen ratings, it was viewed by over 34 million people during its first ten days run, becoming one of Netflix’smost successful releases of all time.

What to expect from Tiger King Season 2?

The second season is expected to follow the aftermath of season 1. There is still plenty of unseen footage that may be covered in future episodes.

In May 2020, one of the cast members of the first series, John Reinke, told The Mirror there were still hundreds of hours of unseen footage.

He said, “There’s so much more content that needs to be in there and I know Netflix have footage for two or three more episodes…the network said they are going to be in touch with me about it. Joe had a bunch of directors through the zoo at various points and they took the footage with them. They filmed everything and took what they had on video with them. That footage is also likely to surface at some point.”

When asked about the future plot, producer Rebecca Chaiklin said, “To be continued,” before adding: “I mean, yes we have a crazy amount of footage and it’s a story that’s still unfolding. We’re not sure yet, but there could be a follow-up on this story because there’s a lot that’s still unfolding in it, and it’ll be just as dramatic and just as colourful as what has unfolded these past few years.”

Tiger King Season 2 Release Date

Netflix has revealed the return date for the second season. The streamer announced the date for season 2 during its 2021 Tudum streaming event on Saturday. Tiger King Season 2 will hit Netflix on Wednesday, Nov 17, 2021. It will be another seven-episode season, just like the first one.

Who will appear in the second season?

Carole Baskin will not appear in the second season and this isn’t a big surprise. Apart from highlighting her dispute with Exotic, the first season also popped up a meme that accused her of killing her husband.

Following the series, Baskin went on to appear on the American version of Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing with The Stars. She became an overnight sensation in a way that she doesn’t seem to have liked.

Joe Exotic will certainly return. Netflix released a trailer that contains reiterated Tiger King footage. Joe Exotic has a blink-or-you’ll-miss appearance as he video conferences from a cell.

While we wait for Tiger King Season 2, you can watch Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness available to stream on Netflix.
