The Witcher Season 2 Release Date: Netflix has announced the release date of the much-awaited second season of the fantasy drama The Witcher.

The wait is finally over. Geralt and Ciri are eventually coming back to Netflix. The makers of ‘The Witcher’ have revealed the teaser trailer of the much-awaited second season. Along with the teaser, Netflix also announced the release date on Friday during its first-ever WitcherCon. The Witcher season 2 will arrive on Netflix on Dec 17, 2021. Created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the fantasy drama is based on a book series of the same name.

In the teaser revealed, Geralt (Henry Cavill) and Ciri (Freya Allan) are finally together after searching for each other throughout the first season. The couple spends time at the Witcher castle ‘Kaer Morhen’ from where Witchers operate and demon-hunters spend the winter. Ciri is now a Witcher in training.

Last month, Netflix released a teaser for season 2 during its Geeked event. It highlights Ciri’s role as a Witcher in training.

The Witcher Season 1 was released on Dec 20, 2019. It was based on ‘The Last Wish’ and ‘Sword of Destiny’ which are collections of short stories that lead to the mainThe Witcher Saga’. As per the reports, the second season is based on the first official book in The Witcher Saga, Blood of Elves.

Coming to the cast, Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Geralt of Rivia. Anya Chalotra as Yennefer and Freya Allan as Ciri will return along with Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 2 will see a lot of new cast members including:

  • Yasen Atour as the witcher Coen
  • Agnes Bjorn as the bruxa Vereena
  • Paul Bullion as the witcher Lambert
  • Thue Ersted Rasmussen as the witcher Eskel
  • Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia

Netflix is expanding the Witcher Universe as the digital streaming giant announced that an animated movie, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, is in development with the same team. Nightmare of the Wolf is expected to arrive on Netflix sometime in 2021. A live-action prequel series titled The Witcher: Blood Origin is also in development.

The Wicher Season 2 drops on Netflix on Dec 17, 2021. With enough time left for season 2 to arrive, you can always stream Witcher season 1 on Netflix.
