The Shaukeens Review by top critics

1) The Shaukeens review Jagran News :  Like director Abhishek Sharma’s last venture Tere Bin Laden, this film too is a laughter riot. He has made sure that the story of the film does not turn up as a sleazy comedy and there are no double meaning dialogues so that people can watch the film with family. The overall album of ‘The Shaukeens’ is quite pleasing. It has couple of peppy chartbusters ‘Alcholic’ and ‘Ishq Kutta’, Manali Trance and Aashiq Mijaaz. Cameos by Abhishek Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Suniel Shetty are few other highlights of the film. The camaraderie between the 3 seasoned actors makes the film a must watch!

2) The Shaukeens review by Sneha May Francis from emirate247.com : Abhishek Sharma turns the 1980s adult comedy about three old men looking for passion into something wickedly funny. The narrative, packed with inane situations and wacky oddballs, is lent a breezy pace by editor Rameshwar S Bhagat. It’s only towards the nearing of the “happily ever after” that things get stretched and a club song lands up announced. It’s a flaw we are willing to overlook for the laughs were worth it. After creating the  phenomenal ‘Tere Bin Laden’, Abhishek Sharma just proves that he’s got not just a one-movie wonder, and he’s got a funny bone unmatched in Bollywood.

3) The Shaukeens review by Manjusha Radhakrishnan from Gulf News : A tedious film, watch if you are a fan of Akshay Kumar and can turn a blind eye to blatant objectification of women. The laugh-out-loud moments are few in this film and the majority of them come from Akshay Kumar’s role. As an alcoholic, bored superstar he excels. Watch this if you are a fan of Akshay Kumar and can turn a blind eye to some blatant objectification of women.

4) The Shaukeens review by Tushar Joshi from Bollywoodlife.com: The best portions are the ones that have inside industry jokes about a director celebrating another actors film tanking or an art house Bengali director wanting to make a film with Akshay. These are the moments that make the film likeable. The Manali Trance and Alcoholic track are addictive. Watch The Shaukeens if you want to see another side of Akshay Kumar and enjoy a few chuckles along the way. Also do watch out for funny cameos by Suniel Shetty, Dimple Kapadia, Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor.

5) The Shaukeens review by Indiatvnews : Director of ‘Tere Bin Laden’ fame does a justifiable job to the script penned by Tigmanshu Dhulia. The story of the three men who are off their middle age mark and couldn’t resist bringing the temptation in their independent life is well presented by the director. The icing on the cake is actors’ performance. The wolf pack of the three gives a brilliant act to their characters. Annu Kapoor is a man with good humour and in ‘Vicky Donor’ we have seen it. The classic actor is once again deliciously brilliant.

6) The Shaukeens review by Mohar Basu from Koimoi.com: The Shaukeens is a lame, dunce, dis-satisfactory and a stupid film at its core that is so tedious and flat that you almost abhor your time at the cinema. If you can tolerate 30 minutes of Akshay Kumar making fun of himself and his colleagues by making funny faces, you can take a trip for this. But for me, it was a disappointing story of how we lost an intelligent filmmaker to fat paychecks from fancy production houses. There can’t be a better reason why someone as intelligent as Abhishek created something so glaikit.
