Anya Taylor-Joy is willing to do another season but it will probably not happen.
The Queens’s Gambit is an American period drama miniseries based on Walter Tevis’ 1983 novel of the same name. Scott Frank wrote and directed the show and along with Alan Scott, is the creator as well. It follows the life of Beth Harmon played by Anya Taylor-Joy. Losing her mother in a car crash, Beth is taken to an orphanage. There, she learns chess and also gets addicted to tranquilizer pills. Later, she fights through her drug and alcohol addiction to be at the top of the chess world.
When premiered in 2020, The Queen’s Gambit’s opened to massive success. It smashed records with 62 million households watching in the first 28 days of release. A record that was later broken by Bridgerton and Lupin, with 63+ million and 70+ million viewership respectively. After four weeks it had become Netflix’s most-watched scripted miniseries, making Netflix’s top show in 63 countries. The series won two Golden Globe Awards: Best Limited Series or Television Film and Best Actress – Miniseries or Television Film for Taylor-Joy.
The show premiered on Netflix on October 23, 2020, and since then the fans are waiting for The Queen’s Gambit Season 2. Will we ever get the second season?
Will the show return for the second season?
Since its release, fans have been wondering about the show’s future. Many have demanded a second season on Twitter, tagging the producers and creators. There is very little chance of getting a second season, especially if it’s the case of a limited series. They are a one-season standalone, comprising of 5-10 episodes in all. However, if the decision was of Anya Taylor’s alone, then we would be certainly getting a Season 2. Unluckily that’s not the scenario. Without the producers’ and creators’ decisions, nothing is conceivable at all.
Last year, Anya made a clarification on her return if there’s a plan for another season, “I adore the character, and I would certainly come back if I was asked to,” Anya told Town & Country.
“It’s so surreal and very wonderful that people want a second season, because we never thought about it, there was no discussion about it,” the 24-year-old actress told Deadline. “That said, never say ‘never’ in Hollywood.”
She also stated, “It would be very interesting to see how Beth would be as a mother, now that she’s sober and more cognizant of the demons that pull her down.”

What the producers have to say about The Queen’s Gambit Season 2?
Talking of the producers and creators, they are not really in a great mood to produce another season. They rather want it to be a miniseries and standalone as it originally is, with fans wondering what will happen next in Beth’s life. Take our word, we sincerely don’t think that Season 2 would happen. Still, the show’s amassing rage may persuade the crew to work on Beth’s further life.
Lately, the executive producer, William Horberg, teased on a possibility for Season 2, “We felt that the series had a satisfying endpoint and we’d allow the audience to fill in space as to what happens next for Beth Harmon. Nothing has changed, despite fans demanding more on my Twitter feed. Scott and I feel really happy about the completeness of Beth’s story.”
If you haven’t watched The Queen’s Gambit, watch it now on Netflix. It’s a beautiful show.
