The creators of South Park signed a blazing deal lately. The franchise is expanding with six more seasons and 14 new movies.
South Park is one of the oldest and most popular American animated sitcoms. The show, created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, started airing on August 13, 1997. Having gained so much popularity worldwide, it might be the only animated series that began airing in the ’90s and is still releasing new episodes. There are 309 episodes released to date with many more yet to come.
The series earned innumerable awards including five Primetime Emmy Awards. The show’s popularity resulted in the creation of a theatre film which came out in June 1999. South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut is based on the animated sitcom. Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Pam Brady were the three writers of the film, and Trey Parker himself directed it. It gained a lot of popularity and set the box office on fire.

Now there are many more movies and seasons in production. Trey Parker and Matt Stone struck a fresh deal with ViacomCBS. As per the deal, six more seasons of the sitcom plus 14 films for Paramount+ are already ordered. These films will expand the South Park universe to a greater extent. The news of the deal came in August,
As per the deal, two new South Park films will release on Paramount+ this year, plus two more every year up until 2027 (there’s a total of 14 set for production).
Tanya Giles, the chief programming officer at ViacomCBS Streaming, revealed the release schedule for the 14 upcoming films. She confirmed that the South Park movies will make their debut with two movies before the end of 2021. Further, she also stated that two more movies will be released each year until 2027. We can predict the same for the sitcom too. We may be seeing Season 30 in 2027.
As of yet, no revelations have been made for the plot of these films. Although, the fans have given rise to a lot of theories, as expected. The movies would either follow an entirely new storyline or it’ll adapt the flagship sitcom. The last two episodes of the sitcom may serve as the basis of the plot for these films. These two, “The Pandemic Special” and “South Park Vaccination Special” were carried in the Covid-19 lockdown period.
As for the sitcom, Season 24 has just premiered with only 2 episodes. With six more seasons ordered for production, the South Park sitcom would continue till its 30th Season. There may be plans to carry on the series in the future, but this is all we know as of right now. Apart from that, Parker and Stone have finally purchased their dream restaurant, Casa Bonita in Colorado.
Trey Parker and Matt Stone said in a joint statement, “When we came to ViacomCBS with a different way to produce the show during the pandemic, Chris, Nina, Keyes, and Tanya were immediately supportive and enabled us to try something new that turned out to be really well received. We can’t wait to get back to doing traditional South Park episodes but now we can also try out new formats. It’s great to have partners who will always take a chance with us.”
Where to stream South Park episodes?
South Park, the animated adult sitcom is available to stream with its complete library of seasons and episodes on HBO Max. However, five episodes aren’t available as they were among the most controversial ones. You can also stream all episodes of the series on Comedy Central and the official South Park website as well. Previously, it was also available on Hulu, but on the expiration of the contract, Hulu is no longer the home of South Park.
