Roswell, New Mexico Season 5 Cancelled

Ahead of its season 4 premiere, The CW has cancelled its sci-fi drama Roswell, New Mexico.

The fourth season of the sci-fi drama series ‘Roswell, New Mexico’ that is due to release on June 6, will be its last season. The sci-fi drama series that debuted in 2019 is an adaptation of Melinda Metz’s young adult novel series Roswell High. The CW recently cancelled multiple shows and Roswell, New Mexico was among them.

Why did The CW cancel Roswell, New Mexico?

On May 12, 2022, The CW announced that Roswell, New Mexico would not return for the fifth season. The CW is going through a period of downsizing. In addition to RoswellNew Mexico, several The CW shows, DynastyCharmedIn the Dark, LegaciesBatwoman, and Legends of Tomorrow were also axed.

According to reports, the decision to cancel these shows was made by The CW’s corporate parents, Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios. The company is now looked after by the newly merged Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global. The new merger partners are looking to cut costs at the cable network to focus more on streaming.

Rosewell, New Mexico showrunner, Julia Plec described it as a Red Wedding-style wave of cancellations. She tweeted:

In simple words, these shows have been cancelled as they aren’t generating enough revenue for the network. These shows are low on ranking charts and the new management is not willing to invest more money.

While The CW has axed seven shows, it has already renewed the high-rated shows for the next season. Some of them are Superman & Lois, All American, Riverdale, The Flash, 4400 and more.

The fourth and final season of Roswell, New Mexico will premiere on The CW on June 6, 2022. Season 4 will consist of 13 episodes and is expected to complete its run on August 29, 2022. The fans are hoping the creators to end the sci-fi series on a satisfactory note as it has been cancelled now.
