‘Rick and Morty’ is a phenomenon worldwide. An adult animated sci-fi sitcom enjoys a huge fan following worldwide. The show enjoys an exceptional 9.2 rating on IMDb. This is probably the reason that even after five successful seasons, the fans are in awe of this animated sitcom. Rick and Morty Season 5 trailer was released in March 2021 with a tweet that read: “Now you can start asking us about Season 6.” The season 5 finale of Rick and Morty aired on Sep 5, 2021. Since then the fans have been asking about the next season status. So, what’re the latest updates on Rick and Morty Season 6? When will it premiere? Here’s everything we know thus far.

Is ‘Rick and Morty’ Season 6? happening?

Adult Swim (the network that broadcasts Rick and Morty) ordered 70 Rick and Morty episodes in May 2018. The deal was signed when there had been just three seasons of Rick and Morty. So, Season 4 (10 episodes) and Season 5 (10 episodes) are included in that order.

With at least 50 more episodes to come, and assuming that the upcoming seasons follow the same episode count as the previous ones, expect Rick and Morty to run for at least five more seasons. So, not only season 6, around five seasons are coming in the next five to six years.

Do we have a release date for Rick and Morty Season 6?

Though Season 6 is confirmed the makers or the channel have not confirmed the release date yet. The latest we heard about it was during November 2021’s Adult Swim Festival, when it was confirmed that Season 6 would sometime during 2022. However, the exact release window or date wasn’t revealed.

After the deal was signed in 2018, Justin Roiland told Polygon that he hopes the agreement they now have means there won’t be any big gaps between seasons. Well, Justin has been the man of his words.

Since Adult Swim ordered those 70 episodes, the pace of production has become much faster and streamlined. It means we don’t have to wait long for the sixth season.

If we look at the release schedule of the last two seasons, we can make an educated guess. Season 4 concluded airing in May 2020. Exactly after one year, Season 5 premiered on Adult Swim. Season 5 ran throughout summer 2021 before taking a month-long hiatus only to come back for the finale in September 2021. It means there was about a year break between the Season 4 finale and the Season 5 premiere.

Will, keeping the above points in mind, we can expect Rick and Morty Season 6 to premiere by fall 2022. It could be sooner if the next season splits into two equal halves like the fourth season.

So, Rick and Morty Season 6 trailer release will depend on when the new season premieres. There has been a time break of one and three months before the trailer release and the season premiere. What’s the production status on Season 6?

Alex Rubens wrote in a February 2021 tweet that the team had started writing Season 7.

In August 2021, a tweet from Cody Ziglar revealed that writing was done on Season 7. “We all stared into the abyss & saw the face of God & It was a Gundam,” he wrote.

This most likely means that the series’ writers room completed work on Season 6 long back. So, Season 6 should be in production right now and it may be on our screen sooner than we are expecting.
