With more than 10 million views on OTT and DTH platforms, Radhe has generated a mammoth Rs 250 crore.

Salman Khan’s latest movie Radhe may have received poor reviews but it has emerged as a huge success commercially. Directed by Prabhu Deva, the action entertainer premiered on May 13 on leading OTT platform ZEE5, with ZEE’s pay-per-view service ZEE Plex, and on all leading DTH operators – Dish, D2H, Tata Sky, and Airtel Digital TV. On the day of its release, Salman Khan starrer garnered more than 4 million views on ZEE Plex, creating an opening day viewership record.

Estimated to made in a budget of around Rs 120 crore, Radhe has so far amassed more than 10 million views across OTT and DTH platforms. On DTH platforms, Salman Khan starrer has recorded around 0.8 million views which is a huge number in India. In monetary terms, Radhe has already generated more than Rs 250 crore for Zee. The company also has the overseas distribution rights of the film.

The terrific numbers mounted by Salman Khan starrer is a big surprise for all. Radhe has recorded these record-breaking numbers when the reviews are extremely poor from viewers and critics. Salman Khan has once again proved his star power irrespective of the platform.

Radhe has opted for the Pay-Per-View model on the OTT and DTH platforms. While this model is very popular in the west, it is kind of new for Indian viewers. Now that Radhe has emerged as a huge hit with the Pay-Per-View model, we may see more Bollywood movies opt for it.

I would love to see Akshay Kumar’s much-awaited movie ‘Sooryavanshi’ take the PPV route. Rohit Shetty directional has been looking for a good theatrical release date for 15 months now. Considering that movie theatres in India would remain close for the next 4-5 months, Rohit and Akshay should look for digital release. Sooryavanshi is a big budget movie and the PPV model would be ideal to recover the budget and make profit.

Do you want to watch Sooryavanshi in theatres or a digital release would work? Share your views with us in the comments section.
