Netflix’s coming-of-age comedy following the life of an Indian-American teen, Never Have I Ever, will end with the fourth season. Created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher, the series stars Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Devi, a teenage Indian-American Tamil girl from L.A.

On Tuesday, March 8, 2022, Kaling announced via her Twitter account that Netflix had renewed Never Have I Ever for a fourth and final season. Kaling shared a note on Twitter through which she also announced that the third season is going to premiere this summer.

Kaling looked excited about the next season as she says that the team can’t wait to reveal all the steamy romance and hilarious adventures.

The first season debuted in 2020 and performed well, with 40M households tuning in during its first four weeks. Soon the show was renewed for a second season. Season 2 debuted in July 2021 and garnered good numbers which led Netflix to renew the series for the third season.

The series follows Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), a 15-year-old Indian-American Tamil girl from Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles. After a traumatic year following his father’s death, she just wants to clean up her social status — but friends, family and feelings won’t make it easy on her.

Why Netflix is cancelling the series after four seasons?

It doesn’t seem like Netflix is cancelling the series. It’s just that the streamer is looking to end the show on a positive note without stretching it too much.

Bela Bajaria, Netflix Head of Global TV told Deadline,

We are thrilled to have two more seasons of Never Have I Ever. It’s everything we want in a Netflix comedy series: authentic, specific, funny, and full of heart. I love that a story I relate to so deeply – about a young, Indian-American girl – hits on so many universal truths that resonate with just about everyone. We’re eternally grateful to Mindy, Lang and the wildly talented cast. And we can’t wait for everyone to see the final two seasons.

Erin Underhill, President of Universal Television added:

Four seasons of Never Have I Ever is truly exciting and a little bittersweet because, as a loyal fan, I’d love Devi’s journey to go on forever. But just like high school, all great things must come to an end. A big shout out to our fearless Cricket Queens, Mindy and Lang, and our exceptional cast and crew, who have authentically captured the emotional rollercoaster ride that defines our teenage years. We can’t wait to experience all of the messiness, the LOLs and the tears that will surely unfold in Devi’s senior year.

Season 3 of Never Have I Ever will premiere in August. The filming for the fourth and final season will start in the coming months. Season 4 will debut sometime in 2023.

With some weeks left for the premiere of the third season, you can revisit the previous two seasons of Never Have I Ever on Netflix.
