Movies This Week Bollywood has turned full romantic this week with the releases of Deepika-Ranveer starer Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela and Kangana’s Rajjo as both being love stories.

Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela

It is a romantic saga which is an adaptation of great William Shakespeare’s classic romantic play Romeo And Juliet. It is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, produced by Nitin Arora and Vinayak Ahlavat and presented under the banner of Eros International and SLB Films.

Ranveer Singh is playing Ram (desi Romeo) and Deepika Padukone is as Leela  (desi Julliet) while Richa Chadda as Raseela, Supriya Pathak as Leela’s mother, Gulshan Devaiah as Bhavani, Barkhan Kel and Abhimanyu Singh will appear in supporting roles.

The movie is already in great news prior its release due to Deepika-Ranveer’s sizzling chemistry and some controversies which has lead to the change in movie title twice, initially Ramleela, then Ram-Leela and now Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela. Moreover, Delhi High Court had banned its release in Delhi on the grounds that the film can hurt the religious sentiments of the people. However, the ban was lifted in a few hours.

Rajjo:

The second release of the week is yet another love story titled Rajjo which is produced by Four Pillars Entertainment and directed by Sahitya Akademi Award winning writer Vishwas Patil.

It stars Kangana Ranaut as a nautch girl named Rajjo and Paras Arora in the lead roles and its supporting cast includes Prakash Raj, Mahesh Manjrekar and Jaya Prada.

The movie is set on the backdrop of the dying kothas in Mumbai with a simple romantic tale of a Muslim girl and a Hindu boy. It will have to face tough competition with the much-hyped and high budgeted  Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela.

  1. Does the world really need another take on Romeo and Juliet? Of course not. In fact after pure and precise adaptation by Zeffirelli from the 60s every new movie on the topic can only pass of as „fine“ at best. Still a prospect of the story adapted by megalomaniac of Bollywood Bhansali, who had previously given us some serious visual orgasms and basically drowned us in feelings (positive or negative), against Indian backdrop sounded deliciously tantalizing. Even more so since SLB´s last venture with Guzaarish felt somehow shallow and pretentious to me.
