The CW fantasy drama show Legacies is off the air for summer. The season 3 finale titled Fate’s a Bit**, Isn’t It? aired on Jun 24, 2021, on The CW. As expected, The CW wrapped the third season on a major cliffhanger, setting up the stage for a crazy next season. The CW is keen to continue “The Vampire Diaries” universe alive as the network renewed Legacies for a season four back in Feb 2021. Legacies Season 4 Premiere on The CW
Legacies season 3 was supposed to be 20 episodes long. But due to pandemic-related delays, it was cut short to 16 episodes. In an interview with Deadline, Brett Matthews, the showrunner of Legacies confirmed that while they originally planned the third season to have 20 episodes, they have decided to end it with Episode 16 bringing a finale that would leave everyone on the edge of their seats.
When the show returns this fall, it will pick up with the final four episodes of season 3. The fourth season premiered on The CW on Thursday, Oct 14, 2021. Technically speaking, it wasn’t the first episode of the new season.

According to Legacies Season 4 Fandom page, Legacies Season 4 has 20 episodes, four episodes that were supposed to be part of the third season, and 16 new episodes.

Legacies Season 4 Cast: Who’s leaving and who’s returning?
All the core cast members of Legacies Season 3 are expected to return for the next season. Danielle Rose Russell will return as Hope Mikaelson, Matthew Davis as Alaric Saltzman, Kaylee Bryant, and Jenny Boyd as twins Josie and Lizzie Saltzman, Quincy Fouse as Milton “MG” Greasley, and Chris Lee as Kaleb Hawkins. Omono Okojie, Courtney Bandeko, and Leo Howard are expected to continue their roles as Cleo, Finch, and Ethan.
Legacies showrunners haven’t made any casting announcements for season 4. We will update this post as soon as we get information from the creators or the network.
Legacies Season 4 plot: What to expect?
The Legacies season 3 finale has opened up several plot points for season 4. The biggest question is whether or not Hope will have to die in order to truly become the tribrid.
In a chat with EW, executive producer Brett Matthews teased what to expect when the show returns for the next season. Matthews noted we will get to see more of Landon and Cleo as they head out on their joint mission to destroy Malivore.
“They’re very disparate people who have this complicated past,” Matthews said. “It’s two characters who know each other deeply but don’t really know each other and the exploration of that. Is a mutual goal enough to unite them together, and is it something that they can achieve together?”
It would be interesting to see if London and Cleo find a way to defeat Malivore that doesn’t involve Hope dying. The next season should also focus on the relationship between Lizzie and MG.
