Confirmed: Janhvi Kapoor’s Gunjan Saxena to release on Netflix

Janhvi has shared a video talking about the journey of Gunjan Saxena, also announcing that the film will soon release on Netflix.

As reports suggested, Jahnvi Kapoor’s next ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ has opted for direct digital release. The movie based on the story of air force pilot Gunjan Saxena is all set for a Netflix release. Directed by Sharan Sharma, the movie stars Janhvi in the titular role and also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Angad Bedi, Viineet Kumar, Manav Vij and Ayesha Raza.

Filmmakers have shared a short video highlighting the journey of real-life Gunjan Saxena while Janhvi narrates about her character in the film.

Jahnvi shared the video on her Insta profile. She wrote, “This isn’t just a film for me- it’s a journey that’s taught me to believe in myself. A journey I can’t wait to share with you all. About a girl who set out to do something simple, follow her dreams.

Gunjan Saxena is the third major film which has opted for direct digital release due to closure of cinema halls amid the coronavirus pandemic. Before it, Gulabo Sitabo, Shakuntala Devi opted for digital release. Both movies will release on Amazon Prime Video.

Who is Gunjan Saxena?

Flight lieutenant Gunjan Saxena was the first Indian Air Force woman officer who went to war. She made history during the Kargil war in 1999 when, as a flying officer, she flew a Cheetah aircraft into the combat zone and rescued several soldiers. Gunjan later honoured with the Shaurya Vir award for displaying courage and grit during the war. She also came to be known as the Kargil Girl.

In the film, Jahnvi is in the titular role while Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi are playing his father and brother respectively.
