What Hellbound is about?

The upcoming Netflix drama is an adaptation of the horror webtoon of the same name. Written by Choi Kyu-sok, the K-Drama is based on the concepts of hell, religion, angels, demons and supernatural powers. As per the webtoon, people are surviving in a society where supernatural events occur. People hear predictions of their death time. When the time is up, supernatural creatures appear on Earth to take them to hell. The concept in itself looks horrifying and thrilling.

Yes, the official trailer is out and it is as intriguing and exciting as it can be. The teaser shows a man sweating extensively as he watches the clock on his phone. As the time strikes 1:20 P.M., the destruction begins. Supernatural monsters break through the cafe for the man as he tries to escape.

While chasing the man, the bloody monsters wreak havoc around the city. Finally, they catch him and emit a white light turning him to ash and bones.

In the teaser, the leader of the new religion explains the new phenomenon. Humans get notices of their end by angels of death and their journey to hell. When the time comes, the executors of hell fulfil the prophecy.

‘Train to Busan’ director Yeong Sang-Ho’s first drama

Hellbound is directed by Yeon Sang-ho who is best known for Train to Busan, a popular South Korean zombie-apocalypse movie. According to South China Morning PostHellbound is Yeong’s first television drama series. However, he has already collaborated with Netflix as a writer for the 2020 South Korean TV series The Cursed.

Choi Kyu-sok serves as a writer of the horror drama show. He is the man who illustrated the original webtoon Hellbound from which the live-action drama is adapted.

K-Drama Hellbound Release Date on Netflix

On February 25, 2021, the director and the cast of Hellbound introduced the TV series in Netflix content roadshow. Coming to the release date, the series had its premiere on Sep 9, 2021, at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival in the Primetime section of TV series. It became the first Korean drama to make it to the festival.

It will also screen at the 26th Busan International Film Festival in the newly created ‘On Screen’ section on October 7, 2021. The first three episodes will also premiere in the ‘Thrill’ section of the 65th BFI London Film Festival on Oct15, 2021.

On Netflix, Hellbound will premiere on Nov 19, 2021. There are six episodes in the first season. The most-awaited K-Drama will be available for streaming in 190 countries.
