Diwali, EID and Christmas are considered the best seasons for the big Bollywood releases. We have seen in the past, how the Bollywood movies released during Diwali shattered Box Office records. This year too, we have to big movies, Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil released and is receiving a good response. Let’s have a look at the Box Office collection of Diwali releases from 2011 to 2016.
Box Office Verdict: Shivaay, ADHM & Diwali Releases From 2011 To 2016
2011: Ra One was Shah Rukh Khan’s first Diwali release after a gap of 4 years. The movie registered the biggest opening day at that time but failed because of poor direction and execution. The earned 53 crores in the first weekend and ended its Box Office journey with the lifetime collection of around 115 crores.
2012: 2012 saw one of the biggest and dirtiest Box Office clashes of all time. SRK’s JTHJ locked horns with Ajay Devgn’s SOS. It’s difficult to pick a clear winner of this clash, but Son Of Sardaar exceeded expectations, while Jab Tak Hai Jaan fell well short. SOS earned 39.15 crores in the first weekend while JTHK collected 49.22 crores.
2013: 2013 saw one the biggest sci-fi movies of Bollywood. Krrish 3 shattered many Box Office records. The movie earned 68 crores in the first weekend and went on to become a big hit with the lifetime collection of 240 crores.
2014: 2014 saw SRK-Farah Khan reuniting for Happy New Year. The movie witnessed the biggest opening of all time and earned 108.86 crores in the first weekend. Happy New Year was rejected and ends up with the lifetime collection of 204 crores.
2015: 2015 saw Salman and Sooraj Barjatya reuniting after a long gap of 16 years with PRDP. The movie registers the second highest opening of all time. PRDP earned 101.47 crores in the first weekend.
2016: This year we have the biggest Bollywood clash of this year with Karan Johar’s ADHM locked horns with Shivaay. Shivaay opened below expectations while ADHM received a good response. The first weekend collection of ADHM is 35.6 crores while Shivaay earned 28.56 crores.
