Netflix’s romantic teen comedy show ‘Dash and Lily’ premiered on Nov 10, 2021. The show served as a perfect Christmas holiday gift for the viewers. Since the arrival of the first season, the fans are eagerly waiting for the next season to drop on Netflix. While everyone was hoping for the second season of Dash and Lily to arrive on Netflix around Christmas time, here’s some bad news.
It seems that Netflix has apparently cancelled Dash and Lily after the first season. Though the streamer hasn’t confirmed the news, executive producer Shawn Levy has unveiled the details. In an interview with Collider, Levy revealed the future of Dash and Lily while responding about the cancellation of another show I Am Not Okay With This.
Here’s what he said:
Currently, not. Dreams of a comeback in some form or format? Yes. But no current plan and that was kind of a heartbreaker of a lesson. It’s a reminder that sometimes you can make something really good and do your job right and still have no control over viewership or box office and outcome. So that’s one of those shows, like Dash and Lily, which just won a bunch of Daytime Emmys where it’s like we, and the team at 21 Laps, feel like we made the show we promised. We made the show we wanted. Not enough people watched and it is a cruel metric in the age of the streaming wars. And sometimes, if you don’t get the eyeballs, you don’t get to make more of the thing. That’s what happened there.
It seems that Netflix cancelled Dash and Lily after the first season owing to unacceptable streaming numbers. While we thought the first season to be a massive hit, it wasn’t the case.
Dash & Lily Season 1 is based on the young adult series Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn. It starred Midori Francis as Lily and Austin Abrams as Dash. The first season having 8 episodes is currently available to stream on Netflix.
