Dangal Vs Sultan Box Office: Will Aamir Khan Beat Salman Khan Once Again?

Salman Khan and Aamir Khan are the undisputed Box Office kings of Bollywood for the last 10 years. There was a time when Shah Rukh Khan used to top the highest grosser of the year list but for the last eights years, it is either Salman Khan or Aamir Khan. The last highest grosser of the year (HGOTY) that did not feature Salman Khan or Aamir Khan in the lead, was Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Om Shanti Om’ back in 2007.

For the last 8 consecutive years, Aamir or Salman have topped the highest grosser of the year list with four movies each – Ghajini (2008), 3 Idiots (2009), Dabangg (2010), Bodyguard (2011), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Dhoom 3 (2013), PK (2014) and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015). With Salman Khan’s Sultan already a huge hit with the lifetime collection of 300.5 crores, all eyes are now on Aamir Khan’s Dangal. Aamir has been working on Dangal for the last two years. The movie has created tremendous buzz thanks to the mind-blowing trailer and superb songs.

Crossing 300 crores at the Box Office is not an easy task but Aamir Khan has a habit of creating new Box Office records. He is the pioneer of 100 crores, 200 crores and 300 crores club. If we look at the past, things are looking in Aamir Khan’s favour. Since 2008, whenever Aamir released his movie on Christmas weekend, he has achieved the following:

1. All his films have become the highest grosser of the year. (Ghajini in 2008, 3 Idiots in 2009, Dhoom 3 in 2013, PK in 2014)
2. All his films have gone on to become the highest grosser of all time.
3.  Pioneer of 100, 200 and 300 crores club. Ghajini was the first film to 100 crore, 3 Idiots first to 200 and PK in 2014 became the first to go past 300.

With no competition, huge buzz, past record – everything seems to be in favour of Aamir except that he doesn’t have Rajkumar Hirani on his side this time around.
