Aamir Khan in Dangal

Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ is all set to hit the theatres on Friday. Being the most awaited movie of the year, trade experts have huge expectations from the movie. Dangal has created tremendous buzz before release and we are expecting it to take a big opening at the Box Office. Let’s have a detailed look at Dangal budget, screen count and try to analyse how much money the movie needs to make to emerge as a successful film at the Box Office.

Dangal Budget

Aamir Khan in one of the interviews for the promotion of Dangal revealed that the budget of the movie is 70 crores. Though we are not assuming it to be official, the budget of the movie is surely not more than 80 crores and that includes advertising and promotion cost. Aamir Khan is the producer of the movie along with Disney and he will share 70% profits from the theatrical revenue.

Dangal Screen Count

Bollywood is going through a lean patch as the recent films haven’t been able to perform as per expectations. Aamir Khan’s Christmas releases over the years proved huge blockbusters at the Box Office and the same is expected from Dangal. As per the official reports, Dangal is releasing on 4300 screens in India.

These 4300 screens will be shared equally among the metros and mass centres. This is the second widest Bollywood release of 2016 after Sultan which was released on 4350 screens. In India, the movie is releasing in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. In overseas, the movie is releasing on around 1000 screens. So, the total screen count of the movie is 5300 screens.

Dangal Economics and Box Office Analysis

Made on a budget of 70 crores, the movie is already a profitable venture for the makers. As reported by us, the satellite rights of the movie have been sold to Zee network for whopping 75 crores. Around 15 crores are recovered through music and digital rights. So, Dangal will begin its Box Office journey with profits. However, the movie still needs to make around 90 crores to be called a hit at the Box Office. Let’s have detailed look at Box Office economics of Dangal.

Lifetime collection < 80 crores (Flop)
Lifetime collection > 100 crores (Hit)
Lifetime collection > 150 crores (Super Hit)
Lifetime collection > 220 crores (Blockbuster)
Lifetime collection > 250 crores (ATBB)

Dangal Economics and our expectations

Crossing 100 crores mark looks like a cakewalk.  Aamir Khan’s Christmas releases over the years have been the highest grosser and we can expect the same from Dangal.
