Dangal creates history, becomes the widest Bollywood release with 9000 screens in China

Dangal Grosses 1650 Crores Worldwide, Aiming For 2000 Crores Now

It has been a proud week for Indian cinema. With Bahubali 2 creating box office records worldwide, focus now shifts to Aamir Khan’s last release Dangal. The much-acclaimed movie of 2016 is all set to hit the big screens in China and that too on whopping 9000 screens. This is the widest release for an Indian movie in any country, including India. Last week only, Bahubali 2 was released on 9000 screens across the world that include 6500 screens in India.

Disney India, the distributor of Dangal has confirmed that the movie is releasing on record 9000 screens in China.

“Dangal will release in China in 9,000 screens, which is the widest ever release for an Indian film in any territory” Amrita Pandey, Vice President, Studios, Disney India, said.

“We are very excited to release ‘Dangal’ in China. The film is very special and with a story which has the potential to travel the world and transcend geographies,” Pandey added.

We must tell you that Aamir Khan has a huge fan following in China. This can be judged by that fact that top 3 Indian grossers in China are Aamir Khan’s PK, Dhoom 3 and 3 Idiots. His last movie, PK is the only Indian movie to collect 100 crores in China.PK was released on 5000 screens.

It is a big achievement for an Indian movie to release on 9000 screens out of total 40,000 screens in the country. ‘Dangal’, which is releasing as ‘Shuai Jiao Baba’ (meaning ‘Let’s Wrestle, Dad’)

With Bahubali 2 already beating Dangal’s worldwide collection (792 crores), it would be interesting to see how Dangal performs in China. Trade experts have huge expectations from the movie and they are expecting it to cross 200 crores. If Dangal manages to earn 208 crores then it will become the second movie along with Bahubali 2 to gross 100 crores worldwide.

A biopic on wrestler Mahaveer Phogat, Dangal is the highest grossing Bollywood movie in India with the lifetime collection 388 crores.
