As multiplexes and cinema halls reopen today, a look at the most awaited Bollywood and Hollywood movies of 2020.

Filmmakers, multiplex, and cinema hall owners can take a sigh of relief. MHA has issued new guidelines for the reopening of cinema halls and multiplexes across the country. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has allowed Cinemas, theatres, and multiplexes to reopen with 50 percent of their seating capacity. This comes as a big treat for movie lovers who have been waiting to watch their favorite stars on big screens.

Cinema halls across the country were shut in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. The entertainment industry suffered huge losses as many big-budget movies failed to make it to the theatres. Many movies were released directly on OTT. Now that the cinemas are reopening on 15 Oct, a look at the most awaited Bollywood and Hollywood movies.

1) Sooryavanshi

Probably the most awaited Bollywood movie of 2020, Sooryavanshi, created a huge pre-release buzz before its scheduled release on 24 March 2020. It is the fourth movie in Rohit Shetty’s cop universe. Starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in lead roles, Sooryavanshi has cameos from Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn. As per the latest reports, Sooryavanshi release has been postponed to 2021.

2) 83

Ranveer Singh starrer 83 was scheduled for April 2020 release. It showcases the Indian cricket team’s journey to the 1983 World Cup win. Ranveer Singh plays former Indian skipper Kapil Dev while Deepika Padukone will star as Kapil’s wife Romi Dev. The movie is expected to release on Christmas 2020.

3. Coolie No. 1

The remake of the 1995 blockbuster movie Coolie No.1 starring Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan in lead roles, was scheduled to hit the theatres on May 1, 2020. It was indefinitely delayed due to the pandemic. The makers have decided to release it on Amazon Prime Video. However, they may reconsider their decision as the theatres are reopening.

4) Laxmmi Bomb

Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani starrer Laxmmi Bomb is scheduled for direct digital release on Disney+ Hotstar on 9 Nov. However, it seems that the makers may reconsider their decision and opt for theatrical release.

Besides these Bollywood biggies, several big-budget Hollywood movies are waiting for theatrical release. Let’s have a look at them:

1. Tenet

Christopher Nolan’s Tenet is the first big Hollywood movie to release amidst pandemic. It performed quite well in the U.S and Europe. However, it wasn’t released in India as the cinema halls were closed. Tenet might be the first Hollywood release in India amidst pandemic.

2. No Time To Die

The twenty-fifth instalment in the James Bond film series, No Time To Die, is scheduled for November release in America, UK, and Australia. It has been delayed many times due to the pandemic. No Time To Die is one of the most awaited movies of 2020 as it may be Daniel Craig’s final outing as James Bond.

3. WW84

Wonder Woman 1984 is an American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Wonder Woman. It is the sequel to 2017’s Wonder Woman and the ninth installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Starring Gal Gadot as Diana Prince and Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, WW84 is among the most-awaited release of 2020.
