Samrat Prithviraj is a box office disaster

Akshay Kumar’s ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ has failed to pass the crucial Monday test. The epic drama is set to emerge as one of the biggest box office disasters of all time.

Akshay Kumar’s Samrat Prithviraj is having a tough time at the domestic box office. Released on June 3, 2022, the movie got off to a low opening and managed to earn only Rs 10.7 Crore on its first day. It recorded good growth on Sunday to end the first weekend on an average note with collections of Rs 39.4 Crore.

Amidst mixed responses from the audience, the Akshay Kumar starrer has failed to hold its fort on Monday. The epic drama backed by YRF witnessed a huge fall of around 50% on Monday compared to Friday. According to early estimates, the movie collected around Rs Crore on its fourth day [Monday] to take the total collection to around Rs 44.5 Crore.

With a huge drop on Monday, the game is almost over for this Akshay Kumar starrer. The movie has been in the news since its announcement. The expectations were huge but the movie failed to meet them. There was apparent negativity around the movie and it all started when the trailer was released. Even Akshay Kumar’s casting has been under the scanner.

So, a big crash on Monday, there is no coming back. The lifetime collection of Samrat Prithviraj would be around Rs 70 Crore. Mounted on a budget of around Rs 300 Crore, it is all set to become one of the biggest disasters of Bollywood. Akshay Kumar starrer will join the likes of Bombay Velvet, 83, and Radhe Shyam. These are the high-budget movies that tanked at the box office.

Samrat Prithviraj will be Akshay Kumar’s second consecutive failure after Bachchan Paandey, which was released in March. YRF would be hoping to get good viewership on OTT when Prithviraj makes its digital debut on Prime Video next month.
