Bombay Velvet Trailer Review : Looks Authentic But Boring

The first trailer of Anurag Kashyap’s much talked about Bombay Velvet starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma is out.The question is does it match the expectation of the hype that’s been growing around it.

The trailer starts with a scene of Ranbir Kapoor mouthing a dialogue and then the background score kicks in a Bollywood of the 60’s and 70’s, well for the authenticity of the era seems to be the prime objective of Mr. Kashyap. Anushka is introduced as Rosie as the voice of Bombay Velvet club. Her racy romance with Ranbir is splattered around in 2.39 second trailer. Followed by the great Karan Johar who comes in first full-fledged role. It seems the emphasis is on the punch of the dialogues of that era. A few more key actors are shown in seconds.

Movies of 50’s , and 60’s are incomplete without smuggling and that too gold smuggling yes the gold biscuits do make an appearance. In the end we hear a blood splattered Ranbir talking about killing Rosie.
Bombay Velvet Trailer Review : Final Words
Well overall the attempt is to be authentic to the time it represents, attires and the feel seems to be quite spot on but as the machine gun wielding Ranbir would say may be this could be less fizzy affair. The movie seems to be more inspired by Hollywood movies of that time than that of Bollywood. A couple of scenes seems to be say a tribute if you can’t say copy, well that is of Ranbir wielding the gun from Al Pacino’s Scarface, the underground boxing scene reminds you of Brad Pitt from the Fight Club.
