Barry Season 4 on HBO

The finale of Barry season 3 looks quite definitive. But Barry season 4 has already been confirmed.

Season 3 of HBO’s hit dark comedy-drama series Barry concluded its run on June 12, 2022. The finale of the third feels quite decisive but HBO renewed Barry for a fourth season in May.

“Bill, Alec, and the entire cast and crew delivered an exquisite third season of Barry, it’s a masterful blend of laughs and suspense,” said Amy Gravitt, EVP Programming at HBO. “I’m so happy to announce that we are picking up the fourth season.”

As your favorite black comedy show is coming for the fourth season, here’s everything we know about it.

Barry Season 4 Release Date

While announcing Season 4, HBO also revealed some exciting news. The filming for the fourth season has already started in June as announced in May.

The first two seasons premiered in the springs of 2018 and 2019 respectively. The third season took more than three years to arrive thanks to COVID-19 delays. It premiered on April 24, 2022.

If the release patterns of the first two seasons are to be trusted, Barry Season 4 will likely arrive in the spring of 2023, except for any massive delays.

Who Is In The Barry Season 4 Cast?

All the major actors from Barry Season 3 are expected to return for the fourth series. That includes Bill Hader, Sarah Goldberg, Henry Winkler, and Stephen Root. Check the list of all actors expected to return for the fourth season:

  • Bill Hader as Barry Berkman
  • Sarah Goldberg as Sally Reed

  • Anthony Carrigan as NoHo Hank
  • Michael Irby as Cristobal Sifuentes
  • D’Arcy Carden as Natalie Greer
  • James Hiroyuki Liao as Albert Nguyen

As for Hader, he won’t just be returning in the titular role, but also as its lone director. In the press release, HBO revealed that Hader will also direct all episodes of the fourth season. Well, this is not the first time Hader will be at the helm of affairs. He directed five of the eight episodes of the third season, in addition to the series’ pilot, among other episodes dispersed throughout the series.

Barry Season 4 Plot

The series follows Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) who works as a hitman. Lonely and discontented with life, he travels to Los Angeles to kill a target and finds a new sense of purpose when he joins a class full of aspiring actors. Despite his efforts to leave behind his criminal history and become an actor himself, he struggles to escape his dark past.

Well, every season of Barry seemed like a conclusive one. The first season ended with Barry committing the ultimate crime of killing Detective Janice Moss (Paula Newsome). Season 2 looked like the end of the series when Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler) uncovered Barry’s crime.

The third season ended on a thrilling note with its most conclusive ending yet. Barry is deceived into storming into Janice’s father Jim’s home to kill him only to be trapped by a SWAT team and taken into custody.

So, the big question is, what will happen next. Will Barry go to jail? Will the world know that the adorable Iraqi war vet from Gene Cousineau’s story is a contract killer?

Speaking to The Wrap, Hader said:

“Well, certain things I can’t say, because it sets up stuff in Season 4, but I can say where Sally and NoHo Hank specifically end up this season and giving them Barry’s disease, like they murder people. That was something that, as we were looking at Season 4, it was kind of going like, ‘Oh, that could be interesting to just have their characters be different.'”
