After the grand success of the first season, the fans are now waiting for the second season to arrive on Netflix. Will there be Barbarians Season 2? Has the show been renewed? We have got the answers to your questions.

If you are a fan of period war drama shows such as ‘Vikings’ and still haven’t watched Barbarians, then it must be your next binge. We have the trailer above, that might trigger you. The show revolves around the fictional events throughout the Roman Empire’s occupation of Germania. It perfectly blends reality with fiction. The plot covers one of the greatest battles in German history. Season 1 of the series comprised 6 episodes, each has a runtime of 40-50 minutes.

Barbarians Season 2 Renewal Status and Release Date

It was November 10, 2020, a month after the premiere of Season 1, when we officially got a word for the show’s renewal. Netflix France’s official Twitter account confirmed Barbarians season two.

As per our sources, the filming for the first season commenced in September 2019. Judging by that, it will take the usual 12-14 months time period for Season 2 to hit our screens.

As of now, nothing’s official, neither about the release date nor about the filming commencement. Still, our sources suggest that there is a plan for filming to begin in Summer 2021. If the schedule is followed properly, we can expect Season 2 in mid-2022. There is no possibility that we’ll be witnessing more of Barbarians this year.

Plot and Storyline of Barbarians 2

Season 1 embraced the hot-blood victory of Barbarians in the Battle of Teutoburg Forest. Credit goes to the lead warriors, Arminius and Thusnelda, in particular, for their epic triumph and the union of Germanic tribes. However, their success is for granted and they’ll be facing several post-battle tensions. The Emperor of Rome might plan something dangerous. Also, the tribe may get Arminius or Thusnelda as their King/Queen.

The showrunner Arne Nolting told New York Times, “It’s not a history lesson, we’re making entertainment.” Hence, we can’t expect that the plot of Season 2 will follow the same path as that in history. The second season can chase any storyline, as of now. But one thing’s for sure, it will be more crazy and dramatic than ever.
