Since Season 4’s controversial cliffhanger ending, the fans have been waiting for Animal Kingdom Season 5. Well, the wait is almost over now.

Animal Kingdom Season 5 Release Date

In July 2019, TNT announced the show’s renewal for a fifth season. It’s been more than a year since that news came out, and we’re getting the season now. Thanks to Covid-19 that halted the production of many shows and made fans wait for so long. In March 2020, the filming for season five was stopped due to the pandemic. It resumed on September 7, 2020.

Eventually, on December 11, 2020, the filming wrapped up for season five. Now, Animal Kingdom Season 5 will make its premiere on July 11, 2021. It will follow its regular pattern, which means that we’ll get a new episode every Sunday. The second episode will release on June 18, the third on June 25, and so on. Also, the time slot will be the usual 9 p.m. ET/PT slot.

What storyline will the season follow?

Season 4 of the series was a complete explosive for all the fans. It showed Smurf’s death, which broke the Codys internally. As per the info on the show’s official website, Season 5 will revolve around the family’s past and present. As for the present, “Pope, Craig, Deran, and J still are dealing with the fallout from the events surrounding Smurf’s death, including family members out for revenge.” Looks like we have a lot to explore in Season 5.

On May 19, 2021, TNT dropped the official trailer of Animal Kingdom Season 5 on YouTube. In case you have just missed this spine-chiller trailer, we have it here for you. Season 4 depicted that Smurf planned a heist as a funeral for her and Pope’s death. Instead, J (Finn Cole) shot her straight in the head. Next, we’ll see how they’ll expand their underworld business, handling their vengeance. Moreover, we’ll see the young Cody family in the past.

Animal Kingdom Season 5 Cast

As expected, all the main characters of the show will return for Season 5. These are the soul and the show’s very essence. The primary stars of Animal Kingdom to appear in the fifth season are as follows.

  • Leila George as Janine “Smurf” Cody
  • Finn Cole as Joshua “J” Cody

  • Ben Robson as Craig Cody
  • Jake Weary as Deran Cody

Apart from that, Angela and Billy will no longer be recurring characters. Rather they’ll be the season’s prime focuses. Turning to the characters having a recurring appearance in Season 5. As mentioned in Fandom, these are:
