After the grand success of Squid Game and Hellbound, Korean thrillers have become a rage on digital platforms. The streaming giant Netflix has planned to invest a huge amount in around 50 Korean titles to release in the next couple of years. Earlier this year, Netflix dropped a mega-budget South Korean thriller, titled All of Us Are Dead. The zombie apocalyptic K-drama become one of Netflix’s most popular South Korean titles in no time.
After its premiere, All of Us Are Dead burst directly into the top 10 most-watched non-English TV series in 91 countries and stayed there for two consecutive weeks. It also enticed 361 million viewing hours in its first 10 days. Many viewers even compared it to Hwang Dong-hyuk’s Squid Game. The first season of ‘All of Us Are Dead’ consists of 12 episodes. Such is the craze for the series is that the viewers have already started demanding its second season. Will there be All of Us Are Dead Season 2 on Netflix? When will it be released? All of Us Are Dead Season 2: Renewal Updates
Before discussing the renewal let’s have a look at what the series is all about. The series is based on the Naver webtoon Now at Our School by Joo Dong-geun. It focuses on a small town plagued by zombies due to a mysterious virus. A school becomes the epicenter of the infection. The students are left with no other option against a growing flock to stay alive. The Netflix summary of the series reads:
“A high school becomes ground zero for a zombie virus outbreak. Trapped students must fight their way out — or turn into one of the rabid infected.”
Korean industry is famous for delivering impeccable zombie stories and All of Us Are Dead is an addition to this list. The show boasts of gory action sequences that will send the chills down your spice.
During an interview with The Korea Herald, director Lee Jae-kyoo when asked about the possibility of the second season, said that it would be great to continue, then informed that there can only be a new season depending on the love the first season receives.
On June 8, 2022, Netflix officially renewed ‘All of Us Are Dead’ for a second season. The announcement was made on Monday, June 6, 2022, on Day 1 of Netflix’s Geeked Week.
When Will ‘All of Us Are Dead’ Season 2 Be On Netflix?
All of Us Are Dead is one of the biggest hits on Netflix this year. So, the anticipation for its new season is very high. The first season took around 21 months to premiere after its announcement in April 2020. However, in Aug 2020, the production was suspended due to the COVID outbreak.
Although All of Us Are Dead Season 2 official release date has not yet been disclosed, it is anticipated to debut in 2024. Season 2 production is expected to wrap up soon, and the creators plan to host a premiere for the upcoming season. Season one stars Yoon Chan-young as Chung-san, Park Ji-hoo as Nam On-jo, Cho Yi-hyun as Choi Nam-ra, Park Solomon as Lee Soo-hyuk, Yoo In-soo as Yoon Gwi-nam, and Lee Yoo-mi as Lee Na-yeon. Several other actors were featured in supporting roles. Most of these actors would return except for those who died in the first season.
All of Us Are Dead Season 2 Plot & Storyline
In the first season of All of Us Are Dead, the entire city of Hyosin was bombed to wipe out all the zombies and eliminate the chances of the infection from spreading out to nearby cities. However, the prominent students managed to escape the city before the bombing.
The group of students struggled to make it to the quarantine centers, losing several friends along the way. However, they somehow managed to get out of the zombie-infested areas and into quarantine centers.
Four months later, survivors On-jo, Dae-su, Su-hyeok, Mi-jin, Ha-ri, and Hyo-ryung, reunite. They decide to return to the rooftop of their school because On-jo noticed a light on the rooftop. When they reached the rooftop, they were surprised to discover that Nam-ra, their class president was still a “hambie” or half-zombie. She reveals that there are more people just like her and she is helping them out. She reveals that these people can’t return to normal society as they will be killed. Nam-ra spends some time with her friends and is forced to leave them due to her condition.
The final scene of All of Us Are Dead Season 1 had Nam-ra jump off the ridge. However, her friends were in for a shock when they saw something off-camera.
Now, coming to the second season could focus on the lives of Nam-ra and the other half zombies. There is also a possibility of the virus spreading again.
The series is based on the Korean webtoon Now at Our School. It is unknown whether creators Lee Jae-Gyu and Kim Nam-soo followed the plot of the comic strictly or made some changes in its adaptation.
The webtoon has 131 chapters and it ends with the virus possibly spreading to Japan. We need to wait for the next season.
