Aisha fame director Rajshree Ojha’s Pragaash will be based on the Kashmiri all-girl rock band with Alia Bhatt and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as leads.
The director of Aisha, Rajshree Ojha, is working on a really interesting project these days. Rajshree Ojha’s Pragaash will be based on the story of Jammu and Kashmir’s first all-girl rock band that went by the same name. The band was formed by Noma Nazir Bhatt, Farah Deeba and Aneeqa Khalid.
Reportedly, Rajshree has roped in Alia Bhatt to play the vocalist Noma Nazir Bhatt. She will be accompanied by a Kashmiri local and a new face from Pakistan as the other two band members. Shabana Azmi will play a character inspired from Asiya Andrabi, a pro-Pakistan separatist and the founding leader of Dukhtaran-e-Millat and Nawazuddin Siddiqui will play a cop.
The band Pragaash performed live for the public in 2012 but started receiving death and rape threats on social media and even on their cell phones. The Grand Mufti publicly criticized the band and he issued a fatwa against the group in 2013. Even though the band received a large amount of global online support, they were also forced to disband consequently.
The story-line is surely very gripping and we can’t wait to hear an official announcement about this project.
