There is a plethora of crime thriller web shows on Indian digital OTT space. One of the most popular Hindi crime thriller shows is Zee5’s Abhay starring Kunal Kemmu as police officer Abhay Pratap Singh. After the success of the first season, the makers have launched the second season on Zee5. It is fetching super positive reviews for its rawness, edgy screenplay, and power-packed performances by the star cast. I have watched all three episodes released on Aug 14, 2020, and here is my review.

Murderers, Cannibals, and Criminals on the loose

Criminals, murderers, and cannibals are on the loose in Lucknow and inspector Abhay Pratap Singh is up against them. The stakes are high this time and these murderers know no boundaries. They are ruthless, barbaric, and immortal.

The best part is no-nosense screenplay. Director Ken Ghosh doesn’t waste much time and within a few minutes, we are dwelled in the criminal world which is full of lawbreakers.

Season 2 kicks off with a bang as an ordinary-looking middle-aged man Harsh (Chunky Panday) is about to commit a crime that is beyond our wildest dreams. More scaring than the crime is the reason behind it. It’s shivering to see Chunky’s ruthless expressions when he chops off the head to pick the brain of an entrance test topper. You can’t believe in your eyes that he is the same ordinary small-town man who owns a photocopy shop.

In the next episode, we are introduced to a new criminal, a prostitute, having a disturbing past. She targets men to take revenge from the man who forced her into this. Bidita Bag as Saloni is a real demon you would hate. As a serial killer, she finds orgasmic pleasures in human misery and blood.

The lead villain Ram Kapoor is introduced in the third episode. His encounter with Abhay is one of the USP of the show. A man with no identity, Ram Kapoor comes as a big challenge for Abhay. He has a complex character and his grins and laughs add fear and agony.

Power-packed performances

Abhay season 2 boasts on some power-packed performances by the lead star cast. In fact, the star cast is one of the main USP of the show as it includes A-listers like Kunal Kemmu, Ram Kapoor, Asha Negi, Chunky Panday, Raghav Juyal and Indraneil Sengupta.

Kunal Kemmu as inspector Abhay Pratap Singh is top-notch. His restrained and subtle act is once again the highlight of the show. However, villains are the show-stealers here. Chunky Panday in his second inning is emerging as an actor to look out for. He just wins your heart as a ruthless cannibal. Bidita Bag is the one we would love to see more. Ram Kapoor shines. Other actors like Nidhi Singh and Asha Negi also delivers worth watching performances.

Abhay 2: Skip or stream

From the first scene itself, Abhay 2 sets the pace and environment for a riveting thriller which keeps you glued to your seats.  Each episode introduces a new crime and criminals with some connection to the subsequent episodes. The narration, the fast-paced screenplay is what keeps you engage throughout. The series justifies its genre as there is enough bloodshed, thrill, mystery, and crime.

Abhay 2 is a must-watch for those who love crime and thriller series. It has all the elements of a top-class true-crime thriller. It keeps you glued to your seats and leaves you spellbound.

Currently, 3 episodes are streaming and 5 more are yet to come. Abhay 2 is streaming on Zee5.
