A Discovery of Witches Season 4: With Season 3 concluded on Feb 18, 2022, will the fantasy drama series return for a new season or a spin-off?

A Discovery of Witches is a British fantasy TV series based on the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. Directed by Juan Carlos Medina, Alice Troughton, and Sarah Walker, the fantasy drama series debuted in the UK in Sep 2018. The third season of the series is currently underway with the season finale set to release on Feb 18, 2022. Since the third season is coming to an end, fans are wondering, what the future holds. Will there be A Discovery of Witches Season 4? or a possible spin-off series?

Is there any update on A Discovery of Witches Season 4?

There is bad news for the fantasy drama series fans. A Discovery of Witches Season 4 won’t happen as it’s been canceled. When the creators announced the third season, it was also revealed that the third season would be the final season of the series.

It’s not like the series is being canceled. The series is coming to an end as it is based on the novel series All Souls Trilogy. The three seasons of A Discovery of Witches are based on the three books in Deborah Harkness’s All Souls Trilogy: A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night, and The Book of Life.

Since the source material available in three books has been adapted over three seasons, there won’t be a new season. The creators of the series never intended to go beyond the source material.

With the third season, the stories of vampires, witches, and daemons come to a satisfactory end. Season 3 is based on the last book of the trilogy, The Book of Life.

Will there be a spin-off series to A Discovery of Witches?

Well, there won’t be a continuance season as the story has come to an end. However, Sky Network and Deborah Harkness can come up with a spin-off series. That’s what the star cast of the show is anticipating.

Tanya Moodie, who played daemon Agatha, thinks there could be scope for spin-offs. She told Radio Times that there’s more in the daemon world to be played: “The main thing I’ve always contended with, playing a daemon, is that fans always ask me: ‘What exactly… what do daemons do?’

“You know, witches do fancy spells, vampires bite people and they’re always really testy. And daemons are always just a bit… you know, they wear designer clothes and are a bit kooky or something. Is that a power?”

In an interview with Digital Spy, Steven Cree – who plays Gallowglass said that there is a scope for new stories: “I think there is huge scope for the different stories of those missing years [between season two and three] and the future.”

Besides three books in the All Souls Trilogy, Harkness in 2018 did wrote an origin book called Time’s Convert. Set during the American War of Independence and the French Revolution, the book is about Marcus Whitmore – Matthew’s vampire son acts as a sequel to the first three books.

This could turn out to be source material for a possible spin-off.

While author Harkness has only written three books that focus on the main A Discovery of Witches story, in 2018 she did write an origin book called Time’s Convert about Marcus Whitmore – Matthew’s vampire son – set during the American War of Independence and the French Revolution that also acts as a sequel to the first three books.

When Digital Spy asked actor Ed Bluemel whether there was a chance Time’s Convert could be made into a spin-off series, he had no updates. “I don’t have a clue,” he said. “We are always the last to know as actors, so who knows! There may be the opportunity for it, and it would be so fun.”
