83 Third Day (Sunday) Box Office Collection: Ranveer Singh’s ’83’ failed to make it big at the box office despite being a big Christmas release.

It’s been an unsatisfying opening weekend for Ranveer Singh’s ’83’ as far as box office numbers are concerned. The mega-budget movie based on the Indian Cricket Team’s historic World Cup win in 1983 has rather disappointed exhibitors and distributors. Kabir Khan’s directional ’83’ had a pretty average opening weekend at the box office. With around Rs 17 crore coming on Sunday, the opening weekend total stands at around Rs 47 crore. Here’s a look at the day-wise box office collection of 83:

  • First Day Collection: Rs 12.64 crore
  • Second Day Collection: Rs 16.95 crore
  • Third Day Collection: Rs 17 crore (approx)
  • Total First Weekend Collection: Rs 47 crore (approx)

Though Rs 47 crore in the opening weekend is not a small number, considering that ’83’ is a big Christmas release, these numbers are pretty average. Bollywood movies like Tiger Zinda Hai, Dangal and Dhoom 3 recorded huge numbers during the Christmas weekend.

As per the Bollywood Hungama report, the three national chains – PVR, Inox and Cinepolis were the major contributors. Of Rs 47 crore, around Rs 28 crore have come from these three national multiplex chains.

Ranveer Singh starrer has failed terribly in Tier-3 cities and mass centres. There are no takers for ’83’ in small cities and towns and that’s probably because the makers failed to promote it as a mass film. One more reason for the average performance of ’83’ in theatres is the lack of curiosity among the audience and high ticket prices. Though 83 has received excellent reviews from critics, the word of mouth among the audience has been mixed.

’83’ is a mega-budget movie. Ranveer Singh starrer needs to cross the Rs 150 crore mark to break even. With an average opening weekend, it is now almost impossible to achieve this number.
