Why Salman Khan's Tubelight didn't work at the Box Office

Every year Salman Khan treats his fans with a movie on Eid and this year too was no different. However, this time Salman’s movie didn’t do quite well at the box office and there are not one or two but many reasons for it.

1.) Salman’s experimental role as Laxman: most of the Salman Khan movies are termed “mindless” by critics. Even though movies like ‘Ready’, ‘Dabangg’ were bashed for no story line, ‘Tubelight’ was actually bashed not because of negative reviews, but because Salman was seen in a experimental role. The audience is use to seeing Salman as the masala movie actor with action and romance, which ‘Tubelight’ lacked.

2.) Sohail Khan: Lets admit it, nobody likes Salman Khan’s brother Sohail on-screen. As evident by box-office records, whichever film Salman and Sohail did together were not well-received by the audience. ‘God Tussi Great Ho’ and ‘Jai Ho’ are proof enough.

3.) Too high budget: Produced under Salman Khan films, the makers were over-confident about ‘Tubelight’ as the Salman Khan movie, because of which they sold it to distributors at a shocking price of 132 crore.

4.) Comparisons with Bajrangi Bhaijaan: After seeing the trailer of ‘Tubelight’, many people were quick to point out that it has a striking resemblance to ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. Right from the location, to the director, to Salman’s simpleton character, to the child artist, people called ‘Tubelight’ as ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2’ and so half of their interest was gone.

5.) Bad music: Every Salman Khan movie has foot tapping song which are sure-shot chart-busters as evident from “Selfie le le re”, “Baby ko bass pasand hai”. ‘Tubelight’ had none of that. Even the much-hyped “Radio song” was thrashed badly by the audience.
