Shahid Kapoor will be seen as Punjabi rockstar Tommy Singh in Udta Punjab. The movie has created a storm on social media thanks to the superb trailer and mind blowing songs. Slated for release on 17 June 2016, Udta Punjab is definitely one of the most awaited movies of the year.
Shahid Kapoor, who will be seen in never seen before avatar, said in a recent interview that he has signed the movie because of the challenging role.
In an interview to a leading daily for film promotions, when Shahid Kapoor was asked if the Box Office success of a film bothers him, the actor admitted that it definitely does, however, he didn’t sign Udta Punjab for Box Office records. Shahid said, “Udta as a subject will definitely not be considered a film for all audiences but something is helping it reach out to a larger number of people. But I don’t want to talk about the money game. I meant I didn’t sign Udta Punjab for box-office success. You cannot do such a film thinking about how much money it will make. It might end up making money, but that cannot be the reason for you to do the film. It should be because of the role that takes you forward as an actor. At times, if you have too many reasons to do something then it all gets lost. So sometimes, you need to focus on the important and fundamental reason why you do something.”

Directed by Abhishek Choubey, Udta Punjab deals with the subject of drug abuse in Punjab. Slated for release on 17 June 2016, Udta Punjab also stars Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh.
