The Last Kingdom is a British historic fictional drama series based on the historical novel The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell. Initially aired on BBC Network in America and the United Kingdom, the show soon found its way into the vast Netflix library. After joining hands with the creative heads at Netflix, the show is now ready to treat its fans with the fourth season.

The first season aired in October 2015 with eight episodes. March 2017 saw the premiere of the much-awaited second season and later on the third season aired on Netflix in November 2018. Netflix announced the renewal of the series on 26 December 2018. Since then the fans have been anxiously waiting to binge-watch their favourite show on Netflix. What will happen in season 4?

Set in the 9th century AD, the series is based on Bernard Cornwell’s The Saxon Stories novels, with each season following the events of two books. The season 4 of The Last Kingdom will see a decade leap. Which means, we will see a bunch of newbies and grown-up Uhtred kids by Gisela.

The much-loved character of Young Osbert, who is raised by Danes is renamed as Uhtred. Alfred The King will have the young man train the armies of Alfred and claim what was rightfully his own. This season will finally showcase all the brutal abductions and large-scale battles that the fans always wanted between barbaric uncle Alfred and heroic Uhtred who marks his return to Bebbanburg.

The Last Kingdom season 4 cast

As expected, the fans will be delighted to see aggressively gorgeous Alexander Dreymon reprise the role of Uhtred of Bebbanburg. Other cast members include Ian Hart (Father Beocca), Mark Rowley (Finan) and Arnas Fedaravicius (Sihtric), as well as Wessex Royals Millie Brady and Timothy Innes, who plays the late King Alfred’s children Aethelflaed and Edward.

Magnus Brun and Emily Cox will be returning as Jarl Cnut and Brida respectively. Wicked Joseph Wilson will also be seen as Uncle Alfreic yet again in the historic show. New cast members include Stefanie Martini in the role of Eadith who is Aethelred’s new love. Jamie Blackley will play Eardwulf and Ruby Hartley will play Stiorra (Uhtred’s daughter).

The Last Kingdom season 4 release date

On 12 April 2020, Netflix officially dropped the trailer on their YouTube channel sending the fans into a frenzy. The new trailer has everything that you would expect out of The Last Kingdom. An amalgamation of action, love, anger, revenge and jaw-dropping battles sequences made out of a hefty budget.

As expected, the trailer got us right in the feels and now we cannot wait to watch the show. Yes, The Last Kingdom Season 4 will premiere on 26 April 2020, Sunday. The fans are overjoyed as they can now enjoy their show uninterrupted because of the worldwide lockdown.

The first two seasons of The Last Kingdom aired on BBC Network, but season three is available exclusively on Netflix after the BBC decided not to continue with the historical drama. Now, season 1 and 2 are also streaming on Netflix.
