Bollywood Career
Salman was very much interested in writing just like his father Salim Khan. But due to his extremely good looks, he took up modeling.
After being a successful model, Salman Khan decided to try his hand at acting. Even though he was the famous son of legendary writer, he never used his father’s name to get any role. Salman used to go for screen tests and auditions, where one day he was spotted and given a tiny role in Biwi Ho Toh Aisi (1988) . Salman’s Bollywood career began with this flick where he played a supporting character.
Salman’s first break through into Bollywood was when the famous director Sooraj Barjatya offered him the debut as a lead actor. Salman made a smashing debut with a full-length role in Maine Pyaar Kiya(1989) opposite newcomer Bhagyashree. The film went on to become the biggest hit of the year and Salman was flooded with film offers.
Such was his success as a debut that Salman was so touched that he even wrote an open letter to the media and fans for supporting him so much in Maine Pyaar Kiya.
Salman’s next Bollywood film was Baaghi: A Rebel for Love(1990) which was scripted by the actor himself much before he decided to take up acting as his career. It was an average hit. And, Khan went forward to give many super hit and blockbuster films since then like Saajan, Hum Aapke Hai Koun, Karan Arjun, Judwaa, Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya, Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai, Biwi no.1, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Hum Saath Saath Hai etc till the year 2000.
However, it was with Tere Naam(2003) which marked Salman as the intense actor. Tere Naam is considered as the best of all the films Salman has done till date. Tere Naam not only succeeded as a film but also helped transitioning Salman Khan from a successful actor to a brand.
After Tere Naam, Salman continued giving super hits like Mujhse Shaadi Karoge, No Entry, Partner etc. From 2004 to 2008, it was a low phase in Salman’s life as many of his movies failed at the Box Office including Phir Milenge, Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha, Lucky: No Time For Love, Kyon Ki, Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya, Jaan-e-mann, Baabul, Salaam-e-Ishq, Marigold, God Tussi Great Ho, Heroes, Yuvraaj, Main Aur Mrs Khanna, London Dreams and Veer.
The Smashing Come Back of Salman 2009- Present:
The string of flops from 2004-2008 didn’t leave the Macho man Salman Khan depressed. Instead, he worked harder and came back with a smashing hit with Prabhu Deva’s directorial debut Wanted(2009). The Eid Release marked Salman’s comeback as it broke all the records at the Box Office and Salman’s fans were overjoyed to see him back. Since Wanted released, Salman became the most “Wanted” actor in Bollywood and many big budget films were gone in his kitty. Salman continued to bombard the Box Office with Block Busters like Dabangg, Ready, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg 2, Jai Ho and Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. Post Wanted, All of his films entered the prestigious 100 crore club of Bollywood and declared him as the Box Office King. His 2014 flick, Kick, broke all barriers and is now a member of the 200cr club.
