Rekha was offered the role of Begum Hazrat in Abhishek Kapoor’s Fitoor but she walked out of it. Here’s why she did so.
Fitoor is the desi adaptation of the popular Charles Dickens’ classic Great Expectations. Many speculated that there were some differences between the director and her, but it turns out there was another reason behind it.
Rekha was playing the role of Begum Hazrat, a reclusive woman who leads an enigmatic life, but is still spoken about her relationships. According to Mid-Day, she had a feeling that there’s an uncanny resemblance between her life story and Begum’s story and she was not at all comfortable with this.
The source of Mid-Day was seen quoting that the character of Begum is akin to what Rekha is in real life and when she realized that, she found it difficult and uncomfortable to play herself and opted out of the film. After she walked out, Tabu was then roped in as the replacement and various scenes had to be shot again. Here’s Tabu’s avatar as Begum Hazrat in Fitoor-
