Baahubali was the first 400 crore grosser in India, ahead of Aamir Khan's Dangal

While we are still waiting for a 400 crore Bollywood movie, it came as a big surprise that the first instalment of the Baahubali series, Baahubali: The Beginning was the first 400 crore grosser in India. All these months we were thinking that Aamir Khan’s Dangal is the highest grossing movies in India.

The box office collection calculation of Bollywood and other language movies is different. Basically, there are two types of the collections, nett collection and gross collection. The difference between the two is the entertainment tax which is higher for Bollywood movies.

As per the report published in leading box office website, Andhra box office, the total nett collection of Bahubali was Rs 420.05 crores. It is currently the highest grossing movie in India ahead of movies like Dangal, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and PK. Here is a look at the collection break-up:

AP/Nizam: 157.05 crores
Karnataka: 68.4 crores
Tamil Nadu: 63.2 crores
Kerela: 10.5
Rest of India: 120.9
Total collection in India: 420.05 crores (nett)

The gross collection of Bahubali is India is Rs 511 crore which is less than gross collection of Dangal (539 crores)

Talking about the second instalment Bahubali 2, the movie has recovered Rs 520 crore before release. It is expected to shatter all box office records in India and overseas. Trade analysts are expecting it to be the first 1000 crore movie of India.
