Director Reema Kagti opens up about story, plot of his next with Akshay Kumar which is based on India’s First Olympic Gold Medal. Reema Kagti revealed how the movie is not an exact replica of the historical account of the famous win.

“I’ve always been interested in great sports films. And I wanted to direct one. It wasn’t until my friend, lyricist-writer Ankur Tewari shared the idea of a film on a historic hockey match that India played at the 1948 Olympics and brought home India’s first gold medal, that I finally got down to doing my own film.” says Reema Kagti as quoted by leading daily DNA.

Reema Kagti confirmed that the film scripted by Rajesh Devraj is not a historical account of the actual game. “Mine would be a fictional take on what actually happened. The game of hockey would feature prominently in the plot, but there will also be a strong human drama playing at the forefront. And it wouldn’t be just the Olympics victory in 1948 we will be looking at. Gold will look at 12 crucial years in India’s history.”

GOLD is expected to go on floors once Akshay Kumar completes his pending assignments that includes TEPK, Crack and Robot 2. Produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, GOLd will hit the screens on 15 Aug 2018. (Read: Crack, TEPK and other Akshay Kumar’s upcoming movies)
