Sonakshi Sinha’s Akira has got off to a poor opening at the domestic Box Office in the morning shows. The movie opened to 10% to 12% occupancy in the morning shows, which is below what we were expecting from it. However, as the day progressed the movie witnessed good growth on end the opening day on a positive note. The movie on its first day was affected by Bharat bandh. Released on around 2000 screens, the movie failed to get a good opening in the morning shows. The average occupancy in the morning shows was around 12%. It witnessed some growth in the afternoon shows but that wasn’t substantial. In the evening and night shows, the movie witnessed good numbers in metros and multiplexes to end up the first day on a positive note.
Sonakshi Sinha’s action entertainer has beaten the opening day collection of other female-centric movies like Mardaani (3.46 crores), NH 10 (3.35 crores) and Neerja. However, it failed to beat the opening day collection of Jai Gangaajal (5.5 crores.)
Thought tThe reviews haven’t been favourable from the critics but the WOM from the public is positive. Although the start hasn’t been great, the movie is expected to grow over the long weekend (including Ganesh Chaturthi holiday on Monday).
