The television dramas may not be as entertaining as a Bollywood movie but they surely proved to be the right choice for many people. Indian television paved the way for many of the leading ladies of Bollywood. You may not know all their names, so here is a list of 9 actresses who paved their way from TV to Bollywood-
1. Vidya Balan
The National Award Winner Vidya Balan started out at a very young age. Her first acting role was in the TV show Hum Paanch in 1995 in which she played the role of Radhika Mathur.
2. Yami Gautam
At the age of 20, Yami moved to Mumbai to pursue her career in acting. She made her TV debut with Chand Ke Paar Chalo, followed by Raajkumar Aaryyan. She got noticed in Yeh Pyar Na Hoga Kam and she also participated in the reality shows Meethi Choori No 1 and Kitchen Champion Season 1.
3. Prachi Desai
The Rock On actress rose to fame thanks to Ekta Kapoor’s television drama Kasamh Se in which she was cast opposite Ram Kapoor. She even won the Indian Telly Award for Best Actress in a Lead Role for her performance. She has done a number of movies since then and will soon be seen in Rock On 2.
4. Mona Singh
Mona started her career playing the lead role in Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin. In 2006, she was the winner of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. She even hosted a number of shows like Femina Miss India, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 2,4, Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega 1,2,3 etc. So far, she has appeared in 3 Idiots, Utt Pataang and Zed Plus.
5. Aamna Sharif
When she was in college, Aamna began receiving modelling offers. Till date, she has done more than fifty ads and appeared in many music videos. She made her acting debut in Kahiin To Hoga as the lead. She film debut was in Aloo Chaat after which she was seen in Aao Wish Karein, Shakal Pe Mat Ja and Ek Villain.
6. Hansika Motwane
Hansika began her television career with a children’s serial called Shaka Laka Boom Boom. She later acted in the serial Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand, for which she received the Favourite Child Award at the Star Parivaar Awards. She made her film debut with Koi Mil Gaya consequently appearing in Aap Kaa Surroor, Money Hai Toh Honey Hai and many other Tamil and Telugu films.
7. Anita Hassandani Reddy
After a successful modelling career, Anita started acting in serial Kabhii Sautan Kabhii Sahelii. She followed it with her debut in Bollywood with Kucch To Hai. Later, she became a household name with the show Kkavyanjali. Since then, she has been rotating her time well between films and movies.
8. Shruti Seth
A model by chance, Shruti did a number of commercials before she started hosting the First day First show and Junglee Jukebox for Channel V. She acted in many serials such as Kyun Hota Hai Pyarrr, Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand and Shararat. She has acted in films like Fanaa, Ta Ra Rum Pum, Slumdog Millionaire, Rajneeti and My Friend Pinto.
9. Ketki Dave
The ‘Aa Ra Ra Ra Ra’ lady Ketki Dave was a rather famous household name in the Indian Television. A noted Gujarati actress, she acted in various serials like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Behenein. She has starred in notable Hindi films including Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya, Money Hai Toh Honey Hai, Kal Ho Naa Ho and Hello! Hum Lallan Bol Rahe Hain.
10. Surveen Chawla
Surveen made her television debut as Charu in the serial Kahin To Hoga. She then appeared in the reality dance show Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena, where she paired up with cricketer S. Sreesanth. She was also the host of Comedy Circus Ke SuperStars. After appearing in Kannada and Punjabi films, she did her first item number in Himmatwala and then appeared in Ugly. Her most recent film being Parched.
